What are your expectations?

Well [imo] Lu has set the bar pretty high for himself... I can't really say which album was better -Food & Liquor lives in my ipod- but if I had to chose one over the other would be The Cool. Which means that he is getting better album by album, so... the question should be "Has his success put any kind of pressure on Lu for this album to be better than the last?" and i'd answer yes...

...Lasers will be just as dope if not doper than the other 2.

He said he was dropping The Great American Rap album and that kinda made it impossible to reach those kinda expectations... thats Lebron type expectations... I'm expecting really good concert music... Anthems for causes... I've never been to a concert but I imagine the ones for this one with the Lasers theme will be pretty amazing.

Not very high actually because I aint expecting another F&L/The Coolllll in fact I can almost guarantee that

In my opinion, it will probably be the worst of the 3

yep

um i guess something totally different from the first two albums.I'm not gonna say I think it's gonna be better than the other two b/c they were such classic albums. There is some hype around this next album hopefully it lives up to it. But Lupe always gives the people some dope shit and I don't think he will fail to do so this album

what rhymestyle said hopefully he can surpass my expectations, cuz i never had high expectations for the cool now its my fav of the two,and i didnt like f&l at first but now i love it, im more of the mixtape lu type

Hey, check out Lupe's twitter. Maybe the work w/ the Neptunes is for his album?

JNolanIsCool said...

Well due to the lengthy wait we've had to endure, my expectations are unnaturally HIGH. I'm one of those people that turns on some Lupe when everyone else's music gets stale so I'm looking forward to a great album.

Rhymestyle said...

If you set a high standard, then you will be disappointed if you dont get another F&L or The Cool... The album should be dope still, but just dont expect to get another Blueprint or Reasonable Doubt, or even a Illmatic... its impossible

But if he does deliver another classic album, then I'll eat my words lol.... not being negative, just real

I have faith in Lu. Lasers seems to be going into unknown territory compared to what most rappers have been releasing as of late. So just going with that in mind I feel that Lupe's third album will be good just for trying to be original.

Anonymous said...

not high at all because I don't expect it to be released in the next five fucking years. Lupe killing his own buzz.

Devin said...

Expectations = Pretty darn high.

I think someone else already mentioned this, but all of the delays in releasing Lasers makes it seem like Lu is trying to perfect it.

I'm pretty sure it'll go gold (at least). But with the lack of concept this project seems to have, I'm afraid it'll just seem like a dope rapper showing off on every song.

But yea, I still have pretty darn high expectations. =]

Rhymestyle said...

No ^ The delay's are all because of Atlantic, it jsut happens to give Lu more time to work on the album thus increasing the chances that the album will sound better

expexcting lupe the killer...

Devin said...

Thanks for clarification, Rhymestyle.

But whatever the exact reasoning is behind the delays, my point was that it should be a pretty well done piece considering the amount of time he's had.

filler or experimental album...u can tell it gon b bullshit from the tone of his post about "the great american rap album"...atlantic must of not want him to do dat lupEnd thing so he got mad and just gonna give us bullshit!

Anonymous said...

Excuse my french.

Fuck expectations. When you expect shit to happen and then it ends up not happening, it makes you feel mad. So fuck it.

Laserz will not be bullshit. I'm sure it won't have as much passion put into to it as much as LUPe.n.d. would have had but it will still be good. I can't wait to give us that good thought provoking music we know and love.

Maybe I might have to listen to Shining Down a bit more but from what I've heard, it isn't that lyrical. But that's just me. Let me listen to it a bit more.

expecting an album with a more alternative/experimental vibe, it should probably have a good mix of rock/electronic influences, being that Lupe is a fan of The Prodigy, and Daft Punk, I'm just feeling that vibe with the title Lasers
definitely dope.

Sorry for the run-on thought.

The thing for me is, I don't expect another F&L or The Cool. I just know that Lupe could freestyle the whole album and nobody would even notice. lol I'm just fiending for whatever comes out man, I can't say I'm too excited for anyone else's album besides Wale...

Rhymestyle said...

Ha! ^ best/most truthful comment yet

Yeah I'm actually getting excited for the Wale album too... also that Mickey Factz Album which...well... lets just say iTS DOPE!!! be on the look out on June 1st for the title to be revealed **** *** ***** <--- dope concept lol

Oh yeah and dont forget CH's "This Perfect Life" on 6/23, and I'll already tell you that this album is dope as hell, sean will agree on that one

Anonymous said...

if he gets on that can you let me know flow for half the songs he'll cement himself as the best rapper alive

Anonymous said...

not for us cuz we already know but for a large part of the mainstream rap media and rap listeners

simply put: CLASSIC MATERIAL

brooklyn88 said...

didnt he say this was the i-dont-give-a-fuck-if-you-like-it-or-not album at some point on twitter? i have a feeling this'll be more experimental.....

Hlynkinn said...

F&L is imo one of the best albums ever made..
The cool is also kinda cool..
Lasers will never be anything like F&L but whatever I think It will still be doooopeee..

I'm just expecting some clean Soundtrack beats. Le messie probably has few dope instrumentals to trance out on. And then I'm hoping to have one really really really hard neptunes beat on there... And I'm expecting Baba to say a nice poet about lasers in the intro :)

Lyrically I have no idea what lupe will do?...

Anonymous said...

a rhymestyle i don't no what your talking about CH's album is going to suck.

.p.s. the first single Barbara walters sucks man. Holla back man.

SeanTheRobot said...

^^ you have no idea

Anonymous said...

LASER IS THE SHIT. AND THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR MAN.

Anonymous said...

a seantherobot you agree that CH's first single BARABA walters sucks right. because everbody says that sucks man.

SeanTheRobot said...

^^ just listen to the album when it drops..it'll all make sense

Anonymous said...

alright seantherobot i will give it a shot man.

Anonymous said...

this is to rhymestyle. lupes problems are not Atlanic its lupe just pushing back his own album how hard can it be man.

Anonymous said...

baba doesnt say poems you idiot...WTF

Also - the album is not gonna be on the level of F&L

and Lupe IS NOT the greatest rapper alive...hes not better than Nas OR Jay

and to the dumbass above me it is not Lupe its Atlantic...thats the most ignorant comment ever. How hard can it be? Clearly you know nothing about the music industry. You can't just SAY when shit comes out. Its up to the label. FAIL on all levels of life

Anonymous said...

Lupe > Nas & Jay

I Am Hungry said...

i just expect it to be on some different level. btw, I WANT ANOTHER MIXTAPE .

Raven said...

aaaahahaha. man, some of y'all r goin in. made me laugh a lil. anyways:

one: i dont think one should compare lu to jay and nas... yes, they're all rappers but their material is sooo different. lyrically, lu is better bc his shit jam packed with meaning. you can listen 2 lupe n find different shit all the time. shiiit i know cant b tha only person on da train 'goin oohh shiitttt. i didnt even peep dat the first 90 times i heard this song' cuz i am not slow. lol... as oppose 2 sumthin that jay would say which usu requires little thought like 'and i sport fly shit. i should win an espy.' cute. on the surface. i respect 'em both.

but thats just me.

two: as long as we're talkin jay, i wanna say that american gangster (ag) was hyped up. didnt necessarily live up to the hype. its a shame that it was nooothing like reasonable doubt... but i def dont think that lasers will end up like ag... lu wont disappoint

three: def agree with having low expectations to avoid disappointment. but with something like this, i think being hype is inevitable.

lasers will b sumthn great like the cool + f&l.
just sumthn a lil different.

d.swank said...

y dont yall put the video of Charles gettin socked in the mouth on this blog so everybody can have a good laugh...and his album is gonna be average at best.

Mr. Genius said...

When it comes to Lasers, I expect a great album. Lyrically & conceptually, Lupe always shows up so I will not disappointed on that front. Only thing that could possibly disappoint is the experimental vibe I'm sure it will have as well as possible guests that won't fit with Lupe's style.

With that, I expect more great material from Lupe and another notch on his belt as the greatest rapper alive.

@anonymous: And for the record, Lupe is arguably better than Jay and Nas because he composes aspects of what both do best into one emcees.
