I really wonder why the people over at Complex.com included 6 mixtapes in their "Top 25 Albums of 2009" list...well, Lupe's EOTS mixtape made it to position #19 on that list, here's what they say about it:
The Complex Co-Sign: Even if it was a mistake, we’re happy MTV left Lupe off their hottest MCs list. The exclusion clearly ignited a spark under the rapper and led to the lyrical onslaught that is Enemy of the State. Wasalu rips beats old and new alike, making it hard to leave him off any more lists, even if it gets him inspired.
Just so u know what's going on here, Lupe is currently featured in RapRadar's Blackout Section and this is his response to it:
via Lu's Blog: WARNING: If you dont like me now...your gonna HATE me when you read this....its chocked full of satire & truth...be advised...
-Via Rapradar.com's YN Blackout Section: "I don't know. Never liked this guy. Not a fan. Ego doesn't match the catalogue. At least Kanye made classics in the '00s. Behind the boards and on the mic. This Chi-town fellow's Joe Budden-like Internets hype irks me.
I just don't get it. I rather listen to an old Tribe CD. Ha. Anyways, dude will stay present on the RR site next year because that's what you young bucks want. As for me, the OG, I'll pass. Kiss my ass, if you don't like it. Happy Holidays!"
He talking about Lupe Fiasco by the way...ummm...Thanks I guess???
Why though?
Anyways, dude will stay present on the RR site next year because that's what you young bucks want."
Hmmm...I mean he has all the pertinent and professional information i.e. Ego v.s. Catalouge argument, not as good as Kanye, Joe Budden-esque derived fanbase, lack of classics etc, as well as all the right in the world not to post me up on his site.
So why take the hypocritical stance of continuing to promote something that you thoroughly and strongly disagree with both personally and professionally? Greed maybe? I mean my name brings traffic to sites. Now whether the amount of traffic is small or massive doesn't matter. It all translates into "impressions" which once accumulated translates into money. Impressions mean money. Money from advertisers and investors.
So to be clear the equation crudely looks like this: artists and all that surrounds them (good or bad, gossip worthy or uninteresting) = traffic = impressions = money! Now we can all agree the most classic byproduct of money is GREED...so maybe its greed...keep him in the mix even though we don't like him just because he adds to the bottomline...say it aint so...and this leads to my next one...
Or what about just plain old honest phoniness, fakery & falsehood?...I mean thats what RUNS our industry...a lil money here and a lot of phoniness over there....all kept quietly under a smiley face until you leave the room and they got what they want out of you and then before you can even get to the elevator its fuck that nigga!...I mean to NEVER had liked someone means you didn't like them from the beginning...like from day one...to be safe lets say 2005...and how many times have I been in XXL under your reign? or how many posts have I had on RAPRADAR.COM since then?...
hmmm...somebody somewhere is faking the funk...but hey thats how its is from the STREETS to the BOARDROOM...niggaz do fake shit all the time to get things done but niggaz dont ever NEVER wanna be called out as fakes or when they are on their phoney behavior especially when KEEPING IT REAL or REALNESS is the status quo and such a reputable status to have & maintain...so maybe someone is just being dishonest with themselves and needs to have a INTERNAL REALITY CHECK so they can just do the things that that person wants to do in full honesty & harmony with themselves...you know?...truth shall set ya free....
Ok what about public pressure?...pressure from the public...the public pressuring you to do something that you dont necessarily want to do or agree with for the sake of remaining in good favor or status with the public.
Thats what runs the industry too...Customer is king and you are a servant to the public. That is such a position of great responsibility. So i hope that if some small cross section of the public humbly comes to request you NOT post anymore Lupe Fiasco material that the reaction to this public demand will be as eloquent and responsible as "I'll pass. Kiss my ass"...I mean that is what the "young bucks" want...and Lord knows I could use the exposure...
Why black out when you can just as easily shed light?
Lupe Fiasco backs up in the Bentley playfully boasting with Jason Walsh. Visit THIS site to virtually climb Mt. Kilimanjaro with them starting January 7th.
The track "I'm Beaming" that was leaked last night was NOT authorized or intentionally leaked by myself or my company.
Plain and simple its STOLEN property. And this goes for ANY record or track that leaks or is made available for illegal download from this day forward.
Actions are being taken and the authorities have been notified.
As a personal plea to all my fans PLEASE DO NOT share, stream, or download any unauthorized or stolen Lupe Fiasco music.
A lot of time and energy goes into the creation of this music, not to mention large sums of money, money provided by my record company as well as from my own personal finances.
My music is the product of my life. It means so much to me. I take pride in it and i also take pride in how it changes peoples lives and gives them hope. So to see it treated in this manner really numbs the soul.
So many of my family and friends rely on me for their well-being and I rely on my music to give me the opportunities that allow me to provide for them.
So this one i'm taking personal. And I will do ALL that is in my power and my circle of influence to make sure that the persons directly or even remotely responsible for this and any future events involving the piracy and illegal distribution and solicitation of my music will be brought to justice and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Both criminally as well as civilly.
With the history that surrounds the devastating and massive piracy of my first album i'm sure some of you can understand why this very harsh stance that is being taken up.
And for those of you unsympathetic enough not to understand i can only compare it to someone breaking into your house and stealing everything not tied down or someone kidnapping you sister or brother and ransoming them back to you.
A deep sense of helplessness. I hope you never have to feel this and i wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

You might remember that Lupe recently shouted out Mistah F.A.B. on "Thank You" off of his EOTS mixtape...well...during an interview with 38thnotes.com x WarriorsWorld.net Mistah F.A.B. talked about how he's connected to Lupe and what he thinks about him. (at 2:26)
"He's a genius, he's so ahead of his time, I don't think that his music will be respected by people 'til he's done, u know, he's one of those guys that you look back years later and you'll be like 'He said what?..Wow I just got what he said.'
His lyrical ability is so ahead of the times right now in that we're living in, his raps should have came out in the early 90's were you got respected for being that dope when it comes to lyrics..."

When I first put this entry up I thought that Lupe was actually talking about Lasers on Twitter yesterday, turns out that he wasn't. He's already working on the follow-up to Lasers!
via MTV: On Monday, Mixtape Daily crowned Drake's So Far Gone the best mixtape of 2009, but there were plenty of others that excited fans from 'hood to 'hood... - Here's what they wrote about Lu's mixtape:
Necessary Notes: "Stay outta the sun's way, like you drinking blood" — that one line says it all. Lupe Fiasco is fueled by a quest to be known as the Hottest MC in the Game. Lu may be taking awhile to craft his upcoming album L.A.S.E.R.S., but his talent doesn't take hiatus.
Enemy of the State was released on Thanksgiving Day, and obviously Lu was hungry. He jacks beats from everyone from Lil Wayne to Slaughterhouse — and even Radiohead's "Natonal Anthem" — and measures up to each and every one of them.
Although the tape is less than 30 minutes long, we're discovering a new punchline everyday. Can't-Miss Tracks: "The National Anthem," "Angels" (remix), "All the Way Turnt Up"

Lupe calls in to Jessie Maguire's radio show and talks about the Enemy of the State mixtape, Solar Midnite, producing his own music, the climb on Mount Kilimanjaro and being nervous about going to Africa & more.
FALSE T.V is a humorous look at the “darker & lighter sides” of our creative culture. Scripted and animated by Le Messie, mini episodes launch on a bi-monthly schedule delving into various scenarios conjured through his mind.
Episode 1 takes a look at the ever bourgeois “Line-Up” that we see affiendos put themselves through every now and then.
Actually, all of you should know about this by now, but just in case...the Howard Zinn documentary "The People Speak" will premiere today (December 13), at 8 pm (7 pm central), on the History Channel. So make sure to tune in!
"What he did and what he’s pushing with the movie and the books and all that, I think it’s something that crosses cultures, crosses beyond white, black, Chinese, Asian, whatever. You know, it speaks to everybody."
Some of their new products include a hoody version of the infamous 'Steal from the Rich' tee that you can see Lupe wearing in the picture above, they also have some new accessories and there's some new stuff for the ladies, too!
So stop by theDope Couture Shop now and grab yourself some new gear!
There seems to be a lot...A LOT...of misconception and misguided info floating around the net...
so for the sake of clarity and so that everyone (HOPEFULLY) will be on the same page let me reaffirm and debunk some things and just turn down the general noise that is surrounding Lupe Fiasco...thats me...
My Third Album is Titled "LASERS" not "WE ARE LASERS" or "LUPE.N.D."...
MY NEXT ALBUM IS NOT TITLED "LUPE.N.D."...
"LASERS" is NOT my last and final album...
"LASERS" does NOT drop in 2009...
"LASERS" does NOT HAVE A RELEASE DATE YET...
"SOLAR MIDNITE" is NOT a single off of "LASERS"...Nor was it intended to be apart of "LASERS" project...
"SOLAR MIDNITE" was exclusively done at the request of the Twilight: New Moon Team to be apart of their film, motion picture soundtrack and as a vehicle to promote the film... NOT TO PROMOTE "LASERS"...
I produced "SOLAR MIDNITE"
I'm not SELLING OUT by doing a song for NEW MOON...
People thought I "SOLD OUT" when I did "Kick, Push"...
I LOVE "SOLAR MIDNITE"...
"SOLAR MIDNITE" is NOT a HIP-HOP RECORD...
I've done ROCK or ROCK-like records on all of my previous albums...i.e. " The Instrumental" "Hello/Goodbye"...
I HAVE A PUNK BAND CALLED JAPANESE CARTOON WHICH I SING IN AND PRODUCE FOR...
I DO NOT GO BY "LUPE FIASCO" WHEN I DO SONGS WITH JAPANESE CARTOON...NOR PERCIVAL FATS!!!...I USE MY REAL NAME...
Enemy Of The State was NOT, NOT, NOT meant to be an album...so stop (to the ungrateful among you) TREATING it like one...
Enemy Of The State was short for a reason...I DONT LIKE TO WASTE SONGS...AND IT SHOULDN'T TAKE YOU THAT LONG TO PROVE YOUR NICE IF YOUR "REALLY" NICE...
ENEMY OF THE STATE WAS WATERED DOWN ON PURPOSE...BECAUSE ITS NOT AN ALBUM...
MOST OF ENEMY OF THE STATE WAS DONE IN ONE DAY...
IF YOU DONT HEAR IT FROM ME OR DJ BUSY IT MAY NOT BE THE COMPLETE TRUTH!!!
Its more noise out there and stupid rumor but I really don't have the stamina...

B.o.B revealed some details about a few tracks off his upcoming album "The Adventures of B.o.B." Most importantly, he talked about the track he did with Lupe called "Past My Shades."
"Past My Shades" feat. Lupe Fiasco (Produced by B.o.B)I produced about 90 percent of the album... There's a song on there I produced with one of my solo musicians called "Past My Shades."
The concept is, you can't see past my shades, whether the shades be physical shades or symbolic to certain kinds of perception or persona. And it's kinda saying you can't see past that...
