Review: Lupe Fiasco @ Sound Safari 2010 in Melbourne

Here we have an excerpt of Stevey-Lee Ginger's review of Lupe's performance @ the Royal Melbourne Zoo (Feb. 26th, 2010) which mainly focuses on how Lupe interacts with his fans:

"The night was especially memorable for the hardcore fans down the front – the ones who got there extra early and stood there the whole night amongst the heat and sweat with the pressure of a few hundred people pushing them up against the barrier.

Lupe was walking up and down the stage giving fans his gratitude and showing his appreciation simply by acknowledging their presence and dedication.

He would stop and point to those people who were singing every single word of every song, look right into their eyes and rap along with them...

Any performer who does that - who acknowledges their fans; who gets off their self-involved high horse and in amongst reality; those who really appreciate that they are only in that position because of their fans – those are the people who are really and truly worthy of devotion and loyalty to the extent that they can be labeled a ‘superstar’."

Lupe Fiasco - Sound Safari @ Melbourne Zoo [Fan Review]

Abukar attended Lupe's Sound Safari show at the Royal Melbourne Zoo on Feb. 26th, 2010 and sent us his review of Lu's performance, check it out below!

On a scorching summers evening in Melbourne, with the mercury unrelenting all day, it was definitely a blessing to have Lupe Fiasco in town to bring a cool change our way.

What was only 40 minutes earlier - a crowd scattered in all corners of the zoo with only a very handful hanging out in front of the stage jamming to the supporting acts on display - quickly turned into an incredibly congested mass of eager revellers, feverishly chanting for Lupe in unison....

Lupe Fiasco @ Thebarton Theatre in Adelaide [Review]

February 25th, 2010 - Thebarton Theatre - Adelaide, Australia

Above you can see the end of Lupe's performance @ Thebarton Theatre in Adelaide and below we have a small review of the show.

"Billed an absolute gentleman by those who have run into him around town, Lupe Fiasco has proved he's also all class when he takes to the stage.

Causing the walls of the Thebarton Theatre to shake on Thursday night (Feb. 25th) , the Illinois-born performer stood out from the rest of the rap pack, delivering a high energy set.

While the crowd assembled was modest, it was clear all were true Lupe Fiasco fans, the bulk of whom didn't stop moving during the hip hop performer's time onstage..."

Jay Electronica: Me & Lupe are going to do a Project...

I know we already reported about a possible Jay Electronica x Lupe Fiasco collabo, but Jay just mentioned it in an interview with MTV again.

Let's look at this, a while ago Lupe said that he wants to do a whole album with Jay and now Jay says this:

"Me and Mos [Def] have a project that we're doing, me and Guilty Simpson have a project that we're doing. I would like to do a project with Lupe [Fiasco], we're going to do a project at some point."

- So both of them definitely want to do a project together, but I guess it'll probably take a long time until this really happens, if they really gonna do like a whole album together, we'll see. - Click HERE to read the full MTV Article.

February 23rd, 2010 - Metro City - Perth, Australia

While we're still waiting for some better videos of the new songs that Lupe performed, here goes one of him performing "Hip Hop Saved My Life" in Perth.

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Lupe Fiasco says that he doesn't want to be Jay-Z and be worth $400 Million

Lupe talked to THE AGE in Australia, mainly discussing the conflicts he is/was going through with his label. Check it out below.

Historically, there has been a conflict between the music Lupe wants to create and the music his label wants him to make.

Lupe: ''It's less about me being a celebrity, because I guess I'm not really a celebrity,'' he says. ''The most difficult part of the music business is the label."

"What I want to do and what they want me to do - creatively - is in conflict. It doesn't keep me up at night. I look at it as a challenge. It's not meant to be easy." - Hit the jump to read more!

Yeah, yeah, I know you want to hear the new songs, but this is definitely worth watching especially because the quality is pretty good.

First off Bam totally kills it on the drums during "Little Weapon", what up Bam? Then Lu performs "The Cool" which leads into "Streets on Fire" & I really like this little transition/intro the band plays before the song...check it out!

Nora x Lupe Fiasco and the Happy Birthday Card

Nora and her friends attended Lupe's show at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney on Feb. 21st and gave Lupe a Happy Birthday card, as you can see in the pic above. Check Nora's story below.

Nora in her own words: "Since it was Lupe's birthday a couple of days ago, before the concert we thought we would buy him a birthday card. The card read ' Happy Cool Birthday'

When he took it off us we wouldn't have imagined he would read it out loud in front of the audience, the theater fell silent and everyone was focused on what he had to say...

Lupe Fiasco @ the Enmore Theatre in Sydney [Review]

February 21st 2010 - Enmore Theatre - Sydney, Australia - Photo via Skyline Productions

"Lupe live is an entirely different beast compared to Lupe on record. His band is fundamentally a rock band playing Hip Hop beats, they turn the Hip Hop sound on its head while Lupe manages to work the now fine line between the two sounds with amazing skill."

Above Lupe performs the song that was so far known as "2 Ways" (remember the snippet that leaked?) however, Lupe says it's called "Beautiful Lasers"

Another video of the same song can be found HERE

In the video below he performs the song (starting at 1:06) that we already posted yesterday ...the audio is a bit better on this one.

(As I said previously, I don't really wanna post song names as long as we don't know for a fact what it is, but this one seems to be about the radio and he says "Save My Radio" quite often...)

Lupe Fiasco - National Anthem x A New Song - Live @ Enmore Theatre in Sydney [Update]

February 21st 2010 - Enmore Theatre - Sydney, Australia

Finally we have some footage of Lu performing a new song off Lasers,
the sound quality isn't perfect, but this is all we have for now!

Sean's Edit: This one isn't "Beautiful Lasers"..in fact..I don't even know and I don't really want to deal with any song titles unless we know for a fact how it's called, nothing wrong with speculating but it's just gonna be confusing in the end. (And for the people asking, no, we don't have a Lasers tracklist...)

Lupe Fiasco was on the verge of ending his Career

Lupe @ Splore Festival [Report]: Lupe Fiasco was next on stage, drawing a crowd of mostly young girls screaming their love for the American hip hop star.

A mix of Lupe's hits and album tracks were played before the star sat down and got personal with the crowd, telling them he was on the verge of ending it all but that it was their hearts that kept his career going.

The crowd lapped up the compliment as Lupe then launched into his new song "Beautiful Lasers" from his upcoming album, followed by finale "Daydreamin'". - Click HERE to read more!
