FiascoFriday - October 15th - NYC - Be There!

No Halloween Show This Year

Some people asked me about this within' the last few weeks but I didn't know if there'd be a show or not. Today, Andrew from FSD took to Twitter and asked Lupe about it, he replied and said that there won't be a show this year.

FALSE: Original Anarchist - “Voice of the Underground”

I present to you the 2nd video in our 3 part propaganda video series entitled “Voice of the underground” for our upcoming F/W line.

The purpose of the Original Anarchist line looks to bring a new re-programmed association to the term “Anarchy.” By the 3rd installment of our video series we hope to break down conditioned negative associations with the word and reveal it’s forsaken true identity…

This 2nd installment is in support of the upcoming FiascoFriday rally/protest being organized against Atlantic Records and put into place this October 15th in NYC by the brave FNF fans/supporters/warriors that believe in the relevance and importance of Lupe Fiasco’s current day message, music and it’s place in popular culture. - FALSE

Video: Yo Gotti - Look in the Mirror [Lupe Cameo]

Check Lupe's cameo @ 3:42. The track is off Gotti's upcoming album, "Live from the Kitchen," which is currently slated for a December 2010 release.

Lupe Fiasco interview w/ Juice Singapore

While Lupe was in Singapore he did an interview with Juice Singapore which can now be found in their October issue. Read an excerpt below!

Hi Lupe. You’re known for not endorsing the hip hop lifestyle…

I don’t drink or smoke. Never. No beer, nothing. So that kind of put me to the left. I never want to chase the same things that build up a lot of rap. I don’t chase what’s popular or what they show on MTV.

What else is left to rap about then, if you don’t rap about guns and such?

That’s what the radio plays, that’s what big on TV. But if you look at hip hop on a whole you’ll get stuff from people like Mos Def and Common Sense that focuses more on the real life. The other side of hip hop glamourises the negative things, but I glamourise the positive.

How do you feel about hip hop getting fused with other genres like electro?

I think it’s cool. I think it’s progression and you can’t stop it anyway. I don’t think it’s going to be the death of hip hop, but the evolution.

The complete interview can be found in the current Juice issue which is in stores now (in Singapore.) - Might gonna hit the net soon, too.

Video: Lupe Fiasco goes viral over Pakistan Relief Effort

As Pakistan continues to struggle with turmoil caused by floods affecting more than 20 million people, hip hop artist Lupe Fiasco is helping to promote a United Nations Foundation campaign to raise awareness of the U.N.'s relief and recovery effort.

Hundreds of thousands of people are still being displaced by floods that began during monsoon rains almost eight weeks ago, followed by rising river waters and a subsequent "lake burst", according to a press release issued by the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Fiasco gave AlertNet an exclusive interview about the Pakistan NOW campaign backstage before speakin at the 92Y U.N. Week Digital Media Lounge in New York on Wednesday. - Julie Mollins, New York, 22/9/10

Free Download: UNKLE - The Runaway: Lupe's Revenge

We had a stream of this track up previously, now it's available as a free download and James Lavelle had the following to say about working with Lupe again:

"It was great to work with Lupe again after collaborating with him previously on 'Hello/Goodbye.' He has always been a big fan and Pablo and I have wanted to rework 'The Runaway' as a hip-hop track for some time, so it is perfect that we were able to work with Lupe and have him rapping on this version.

It came about after talking to Lupe earlier this year when I was in L.A. and was finally created for our recent 'Daydreaming' exhibition at London gallery Haunch of Venison. I am really happy we managed to pull it off." -- James Lavelle

Video: Lupe Fiasco x Kenna & Co. @ UN Week's Digital Media Lounge

Lupe, Kenna and some other social activists met @ 92nd Street Y in New York today for a panel about Music, Media and Activismn.

They talked about what they did, and how they used social networks, to raise awareness for the Global Clean Water Crisis, the earthquake victims in Haiti and the flood victims in Pakistan.

During the discussion Lupe also talked about the #FiascoFriday protest (once at the 23:40 mark and at the 35:10 mark) - Video via mashable

I spoke to XXLmag.com about the #FiascoFriday Protest

Yesterday Adam from XXLmag.com hit me up and asked me if I could tell him something about the fan organized protest that's going down in front of the Atlantic Records Headquarters in NYC on October 15th.

Here's the part of the article/interview where I talked about the goal of the demo/protest:

“The goal is to put more pressure on the people at Atlantic who are responsible for the release of the album,” said Sean, explaining that the idea picked up steam on the Lupe section of the Kanye West fan site kanyelive.com.

“We want them to see that there are a lot of people who stand behind Lupe and who are willing to go a long way for him and for the things he stands for,” he added. “I’ve heard of people who are gonna fly to New York or make a road trip to be there on October 15, that just shows you how dedicated his fans are.

And Atlantic will see that, too. They can’t just ignore that and move on if there’s a bit of humanity left in their corporate bodies. Of course, the ultimate goal is to get Lasers released ASAP.”

So if you're in New York or close - be there! Wear the Lasers Uniform and bring picket signs! - If you have friends in New York - tell them about it!

KiD CuDi mentions Lupe Fiasco in new interview w/ Complex Mag

Cudi cover's the Oct/Nov issue of Complex Mag. In his interview with them he talked about his drug use, getting locked up and other things. When asked who was there for him after his arrest, he mentioned Lupe besides others. Check an excerpt below:

Complex: Was getting locked up after the criminal mischief arrest another wake-up call?

Kid Cudi: The "new me" happened when I was walking out of court that day. It was really just like, "Man, you got it fucking going on, and you were about to piss it all away for some bullshit." Everywhere I go, people be looking at me like I'm some type of fucking crackhead now.

Nobody wants to have their fucking name attached to a maniac, to a fuck-up, so everyone distances themselves. There are only a few motherfuckers that called and checked in on me. I can count them on my hand.

Complex: Who was there for you?

Kid Cudi: Besides the fam, and Yeezy and Don C, there's one artist in this game who has always had my back and had nothing but love to show, and that's Lupe Fiasco.

Every time I see that man, it's nothing but love—I saw him a little after it, and he was like "I'm worried about you, man, just checking in." He's somebody who I know really genuinely gives a fuck. Noreaga also checked in.

New Music: Trae Tha Truth x Lupe Fiasco - "Bad Don't Seem So Wrong"

Here's the track we've all been waiting for. Off of Trae's upcoming "Can't Ban Tha Truth" mixtape which drops on Sept. 28th.

I'm Beamin' Remix not dropping 'cause of Charles Hamilton?

According to Charles, the I'm Beamin' remix isn't dropping 'cause of his 'situation', here's a quote from his blog:

Because I have no publishing deal, Lupe can't get the song cleared. We're gonna work on it tho...

Honestly, no disrespect to Charles, if that's the (only) reason why it's not dropping, then they should just get rid of that verse. Thoughts?

Review: Lupe Fiasco @ Juice Jam 2010

The Daily Orange put up a review of Lupe's performance at the Juice Jam in Syracuse, NY yesterday. Here's a little excerpt:

After a dramatic countdown from his band and a display of timed lighting, Lupe Fiasco, the headlining act, bolted onto the stage, spinning around in circles, jumping up and down, and making sure the audience was rowdy enough for him to start his first song, “Shining Down.”

“I thought Lupe was really good,” said Courtney Lyons, a freshman sport management major. “His energy was so high, the music was continuous and there wasn’t even a pause between songs.”

Fiasco’s band didn’t disappoint, either. Eric Hammer, the guitarist, was shredding riffs that made the audience cheer, while drummer Big Baby Bam pounded his drumsticks, even standing up on a few songs. He also added in some well-known pop culture elements to his routine with a cover of Radiohead’s “The National Anthem” and a small clip from Mr. C The Slide Man’s “Cha-Cha Slide.”

A Message from Kenna: Give up your Birthday, Give the Gift of Life

Dear Friend

As you know, Summit on the Summit and I believe that access to clean water sits at the center of preventing and solving many of the issues affecting humanity today, such as life threatening disease, poverty, and hunger.

We also know there are many ways to provide water, and that water wells are a very prominent solution in Africa, home to Mount Kilimanjaro and the many friends we made on our mission to raise awareness for the cause.

Join us in supporting the work of organizations like charity: water, whose September birthday campaign rallies all those born in September to ask for donations instead of gifts so we can in turn give the gift of life.

Lupe Fiasco interview w/ Complex (talks Lasers Delay, Food & Liquor II & More)

Lupe talked to Complex about Japanese Cartoon, the Lasers delay, Food & Liquor 2 and more. - Check a part of the interview here:

Complex: So what is Japanese Cartoon?

Lupe Fiasco: Japanese Cartoon is my lifeblood. That was my Plan B. If Lupe Fiasco fails and Lasers never comes out, I have to do something. I still have to make music. I still have to go out and tour. I want to make music as good as Radiohead, as good as Coldplay. I can make hip-hop as good as anybody. But you get bored with that and you want new challenges. And for me, this is a new challenge.

Complex: You mentioned Japanese Cartoon being your Plan B, let’s talk about Plan A. A second ago, you said “If Lasers never comes out.” Will it not come out?

Lupe Fiasco: It could. The situation with me and my record company has gotten to the point where it’s just like…we’re really at our final straws. People could say it’s me, that “Lupe doesn’t want to make popular music” or “The label has got to have records that they can sell and Lupe is not giving them the records they want to sell” and XYZ.

I’ll meet a fan on the street and we’ll have a full conversation about it. There’s maybe six or seven people walking around who know the whole story with their mouths wide open and their jaws to the floor as to why Lasers has been held up to this point and why it’s not coming out. I can’t tell you that. We’re in a space where we’re still negotiating and some stuff isn’t meant for the public.

Complex: Do you see the record coming out any time soon?

Lupe Fiasco: God willing. I literally put it in God’s hands. You know what, Lasers is a record I poured my heart into. I was actually making my own music, in the studio making the songs, and rapping on them. And at the same time, making the music more acceptable. Not making it more poppy, but making it more popular. Putting it in the position where more people can understand it but at the same time still satisfy my hardcore fanbase.

Complex: You keep referring to it as Lasers, but on the Internet now people are saying the record could be called Food and Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album. Is that not a real title?

Lupe Fiasco: When I said that I was going to do an album called The Great American Rap Album, I did it. Lasers is one project.

Complex: So you have two albums already done?

Lupe Fiasco: Yeah. I make music every day. [Laughs.] Half of the next Japanese Cartoon record is done. When I say Lasers has been done for two and a half years, what do you think I’ve been doing since then?

I’ve been sitting back and making more music. I get beats every day from every producer. People want me to feature on their songs, and favors for favors, and all this other craziness. Lasers is one project on its own. It’s its own project, sitting being done, waiting to be released. And I’m in talks with doing the record after this one. So I’m constantly creating. But that doesn’t mean I’m constantly releasing....

Trae Tha Truth talks about his friendship with Lupe Fiasco

Complex interviewed Trae Tha Truth and he talked about being banned from the radio, his upcoming mixtape "Can't Ban Tha Truth" and his friendship with Lupe.

Complex: The ban doesn’t seem to be slowing you down. Lupe Fiasco brought you out to perform during his show at Houston’s House of Blues.

Trae: Yeah, Lupe took me with him on the Lasers tour. It was amazing when he would bring me out and the fans know my songs word for word. I’m blessed. I’m constantly working and there are a lot of people supportin’ me in the streets.

Complex: Lupe also came out to your third annual Trae Day this year. Tell us about your friendship with Lupe.

Trae: Lupe’s like a brother to me. Me and him, we be on some laughin’ about life shit. It has nothing to do with music. We both came from the struggle. He came out of Chicago, which is a hard place to come up, so we both understand what it is. He flew in just to help out with Trae Day and I love him for it.
