ReplyDeleteI'm actually a little disappointed in reading the tracklist myself. I'm glad "I'm Beamin" and "Shining Down" weren't part of the 12 tracks, that would have meant two lesser new songs. So if you are upset about, please rationalize why.
ReplyDeleteI'm also disapppointed by the feeling I'm getting of how pop this album is going to be. "The Cool" was such an amazing album with the fact that it forced me to study all of Lupe lyrics over and over again.
So far, the last two Lasers singles have been dumbed down from his past albums despite its subversive content. There have been no signature double-meanings or subliminal and hidden messages behind his lyrics.
I really hope Food and Liquor II will make up for what will be missing in Lasers. I feel like I've been waiting 2 years for something that will fall short of F&L and The Cool.
I want old Lupe back. Even the kind of lyricism used in "Go To Sleep" would be really appreciated, but I doubt we'll see any of it.

ReplyDeleteI was a little upset about the fact that it only has 12 tracks but if you exclude the intro and outro on F&L that only has 14 tracks, and if you exclude the intro and free chilly from The Cool that has 17 tracks and most people prefer F&L over The Cool.

How is twelve tracks short? It's standard length for an album. It may be shorter than The Cool or Food & Liquor, but it's still a full album. And honestly, even if the album only had 6 tracks on it, there'd still be no reason to complain. The songs on an album are there because they fit the theme of the album; it makes the cohesive statement that the artist aims to have made. Just because you want this or that track on an album doesn't lower the quality of it, which is something I doubt any of us can actually comment on anyway. I mean: how many of these tracks have you actually heard? Two? Five, if you've been listening to leaks and live performances. Dude, that's not even half of the cd. I'm tired of people complaining about how bad they think this album is going to be, especially since none of knows all that much about it. I'm a die-hard Lupe Fiasco fan; he would have to become a different human being for me to be genuinely disappointed in him. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on this one, guys, because he has such ridiculously great track record (pun intended). And can we just shut up for a damn second and enjoy all the attention Lu's been giving his fans for the last two and a half months? Just one more month and y'all can be Lu-Haters (bad fans) all over again, at least y'all will have heard songs by then.

ReplyDeleteIf everyone remember E.O.T.S had 9 tracks on it and that is easily one of the best mixtapes that came out in that year. Lupe's content, style, flow, ect. is so good in his songs compared to other rappers, that to me one track of his is equivilant to two tracks of anyone else's in the mainstream of hiphop right now. That's why I think Alantic decided to put only twelve tracks on the album because maybe it's just that good.
