Fan Art: Lupe Fiasco - Friend of the People

Since Friend of the People dropped I received a bunch of fan created covers for the project. The only one that's worthy of a post is this one though. - Created by Rachel

  1. idk I like the idea. One problem is that the people are praying to a Cross, the symbol for Christianity. But there is also a burnt flag inside the cross, which associates the cross with wrong which implies that Christianity is wrong.

  2. Organized religion is the root to the world's problems

  3. Praying is one interpretation of the hands. I think of it as more of they are holding out there hands in need of something ie food because they are starving. And the cross and/or america is a black hole that no longer has anything to offer them. But I guess that could be the same as praying...

  4. The "only one that's worthy of a post?"

Damn that's harsh. I guess the other Lupe fans that did art work suck, right?

  5. I like... But the cross is unnecessary :/

  6. Great job Rachel! Lets be positive peeps...either way, it got our attention and made the one it should really matter to, happy enough to post it.

I'm sure everyone did a great job! And he didn't mean this as an insult - It sounds harsh, but who knows, maybe it really means something to him.

    IDK

  9. Epic fail cos of the cross?

Have you seen the real album artwork!?

  10. It is definitely very expertly done, but doesn't seem to make any sense(?)

  11. The actual album cover simply said ''Jesus''

The Christian fanboys went CRAZY over that one, thinking Lupe might actually have converted. What idiots..

Jesus was a "Friend on the people" hence the album cover. It wasn't rocket science.

As for the fan art, its okay. Art is down to peoples interpretations. I think the person who did this viewed FOTP from a very Christian viewpoint...

Still, the cross is a bit much for me :P

  12. ^its saying Christianity is a void.

  13. ^^ Cause worshiping Jesus(Isa) WILL NOT get the people no where. WWJD . He was brought as a prophet by god, to the Israelite because they abandoned the teaching of mosses and the worship of that creator, One God(Illah, Allah, ect) so for the people to go out and worship him (or worship his supposedly death) then I think he'd Prolly Would LOL Like WTF.

  14. Wwjd is not referencing Or denounicing religion at all.

The song was about soicety as a whole. You know How materialistic today's society is and how corrupt the government is. If Jesus were here he'd probably would laugh out loud like what the fuck

  15. I love the art work it looks like the people have lost everything in a fire or something. Their praying that it has to be a better place than this. Well, I don't know for sure good art work though.

  16. The artwork is dope. Cross or no cross. If any art makes me stare at it for a few mins and just think, then it wins.

"The books that take you to heaven and let you meet the Lord there, have become misinterpreted, reasons for warfare"

No need for the verbal war. I'm a Christian but definitely not in a position to tell someone whether they're right or wrong.

  17. You idiots find any reason to argue. Who cares there's a cross on it? I really really like it! Someone should tweet it to Lupe :)

  18. ^ I agree with 99yroc... I actually like this, its creative!

  19. Cross - Christianity
Wall - Western wall of Jerusalem?
Hands - Islamic way of prayer?

    All ganging up on USA?

  23. More like friend of the industry cuz all those songs were lame. The PEOPLE want food and liquor lupe. Shit the people want enemy of the state Lupe. Enemy of the state was better than fagzers.

  24. @staticforce96 OMG okay CALM DOWN!!! I mean Im Muslim, but srsly ur taking this too far, it's not like Lupe is the 1 who made this!

  25. One other person seemed to have gotten the same idea as me.

    Wailing wall - Judaism
    Cross - Christianity
    Praying Hands - Islam

I'd say burning flag represents the idea of ending nationalism.

It seems like a pro-religion/religious unity type of thing.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yea but Muslims don't pray like that we make du'a(which kinda like a prayer)like that, but u know wat, yea I see wat u mean

    ReplyDelete
  27. Damn Sean, you're a FUCKING ASSHOLE for stating that "Since Friend of the People dropped I received a bunch of fan created covers for the project. The only one that's worthy of a post is this one though." smdh...

P.s. btw I'm not one of those fans that created a cover, I'm just defending the ones that WERE NOT WORTHY!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. ^ Sean IS pretty much a dick. He tries too hard to come across as cool..

He's quite a douche in my opinion. I read that statement as well and was like, "What an asshole"

    ReplyDelete
  29. Wow u guys are going crazy over something that Sean prob didn't even mean! I mean yea that's not the best way 2 put it, but who knows, he prob meant it in a diff way...

    ReplyDelete
  30. ^ Not exactly going crazy. They just shared their opinions...

Lol. Funny enough, I share their sentiments as well :P

    ReplyDelete
  31. Wow @ EmperorHisAlias... Pretty good interpretation.

However much I doubt its what the artist was going for, I still think your interpretation is the most fair.

Art is all about interpretation :D

  32. My God, did u guys notice the heart made of smoke?!

    ReplyDelete
  33. This is beautiful. I love it. I agree with the fact whoever did this was trying to show who lupe really is. Cross for christian and hands "dua" for muslims. Brilliant. Love it

    ReplyDelete
  34. ^ wat do u mean? As in he's Christian & Muslim??

    ReplyDelete
  35. I don't get it, it doesn't make any sense

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think this an amazing peice of work and that it conveyes the overall theme of the mixtape very well.

    Good lookin'

  37. "More like friend of the industry cuz all those songs were lame. The PEOPLE want food and liquor lupe. Shit the people want enemy of the state Lupe."

..Come on man. Where's your head at? Sounds to me like you're pissed at the beats and not the actual lyrics. His lyrical content was all classic Lupe on FOTP. Great wordplay, great messages... honestly, I don't understand what else people like you want.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Too add more to the interpretation table, anyone else think of Japan when they saw the red circle? Somewhat relevant in the diversity of the picture

    ReplyDelete
  39. This mix-tape was sick better than a lot of whats been out this year, expected because Lupe IS better than pretty much every other rapper. Not only does he flow with the best of them, his vocabulary is more complex and content is way more relevant to the common person, FOTP is a very good example of this. For all those engaged in a religious battle about the cover, the original cover has "JESUS" on it. The tape was made ignoring the differences in religion his fans have. His motive is to talk about political issues, the radio's agenda, current events, etc. You guys should really listen to his music.
