Lupe ranked 49th on The Source's "Top 50 Lyricists of All Time" List

The Source has put together a list of the Top 50 Hip Hop Lyricists of All Time. Lupe is listed on position 49. I pretty much voiced my opinion about this on Twitter, so I'll just let you read what The Source wrote about Lupe and if you want to see the full list; go HERE for all scans.

In an age when denouncing violence and encouraging positive development in Rap seems to be a career killer, Lupe has defied the odds and emerged onto the scene with a more upbeat and positive meaning in his lyrics.

To some Lupe's lyrical repertoire may seem like a contradiction to his true message but he manages to draw in a wider audience with it and open up the eyes of the Hip Hop community. Using his emotion as a tool, Lupe is not afraid to voice his opinion.

  2. this is one of the weakest reviews I've had the unpleasure of reading in a long time. Lupe has had his moments of stark pessimism about the world but nonetheless manages to come out on top with witty lyrics that transcend the everyday humdrum superficial crap that boils out of today's mainstream (and even some underground) artists. Lupe should have been higher on this list - if anything, higher than Little Kim and Ludacris whose once "quality" raps have diminished to nothing but mainstream fodder in the past 2 years - and if this is the type of bull they're printing on TheSource then they've just lost another reader.

  7. This just makes the Source look ignorant. Rick Ross should not be on any list of lyricists. Nor should T.I., Fabolous, or DMX. If the 40's are that terrible, I can't imagine how bad the rest of that list is.

DMX Exactly Deservers a Spot on here (You only say he doesn't because you never heard a whole album by him) AS for Fabalous He proved me wrong with the soul tape... but that's only 1 Dope Project he has and he's been in the game for like 11 years.....

    Why is lil kim even on a lyricist list let alone ahead of Lu?

    They have so many people too low (Canibus #44?) and so many people too high (Queen Latifah #25?).

    This list is obviously isn't based off of pure lyrics or at least technique.

    This list is soooo ignorant.

  39. this is dumb. i have been following lupe for years because his words have intelligence unlike the stupid shit on the radio. none of this like is right. granted i like nas being so high, but why is common not in the top 5? lupe at the least should be top ten with top five consideration. q-tip should be higher. rick ross and wayne should be left out completely. but one thing i can say im glad is that drake was left off thank god
