Michael Young History: The Story Of A Victim To The Streets And The Game Part 2 [A Genius Lu' Volume 43]

When we last left off, Michael Young History was walking out of his house feeling very fortunate. Unlike those around him, he was decked out in fancy clothes paid for by his newfound profession, drug dealing. The Game had taught him all the rules of the underworld and he was masterfully applying them to his everyday life. Although corrupted, he still has faith in God and promised that he would stop hustling once he found a legitimate job. As he continues his journey, he receives a call from The Streets, but does he answer? Lets find out...

Bassnectar reveals how "Vava Voom" was Created

Bassnectar talked about the creation of the song "Vava Voom" in a recent interview with Migrate Music News:

MMN: “Your new album, VaVa Voom, is set to be released soon and you recently released a new single with Lupe Fiasco. Explain your song writing process, as well as your recording method in the studio. How did your collaboration with Lupe come together?”

Bassnectar: “He and I share the same birthday. I am starting to imagine that someone cast a spell on me and I slipped into a trance. When I awoke, Lupe & I were involved in some secret twilight experiment that we cannot quite remember, but will never forget.”

“The result was Vava Voom.”

Michael Young History: The Story Of A Victim To The Streets and The Game Part 1 [A Genius Lu' Volume 42]

It's been a long time since the "A Genius Lu" series made an appearance on the site, but now its back in a big way!

Keep in mind that this is only my interpretation of the Michael Young History saga. Not all of the songs explained here have been officially confirmed by Lupe Fiasco himself to be part of the ongoing story, and I may have missed a couple. Solely based on my personal analysis, some of the songs only have certain verses/lines that pertain to the story and will be marked *song title* to make the distinction. The embedded links have been time-stamped to help you follow along as easily as possible. I will be using as many details and references as I can, essentially breaking it down line for line, but you can go HERE to read the condensed, "tl;dr" version. When your done, click HERE to continue onto Part 2!

Scattered in a puzzle-like manner throughout Lupe's discography, the story of MYH is one that summarizes the journey of those that fall victim to the deceit that lies within chasing fame and fortune. Lupe uses this 17-song long musical theater to personify the lure of money and notoriety into 2 inseparable, angel faced, smooth talking, fingers-crossed-behind-their-back Bonnie & Clyde-like villains; The Streets and The Game. The fight within oneself to remain pure versus the constant inner voice yelling "BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY" is stretched even into the afterlife, where Michael Young History transforms into The Cool. The love affair, as it always does, turns into a fatal love triangle. And in the end, The Streets and The Game remain loyal to the only thing they've ever been truly devoted to... each other.

SOHH Underrated: Lupe Fiasco

Each week, SOHH asks two entertainment personalities to name who they feel is the most underrated emcee in hip-hop. After Ben J gave Game the title earlier this week, New Boyz's Legacy crowns Lupe Fiasco SOHH Underrated.

Legacy: Honestly, I'm not going to pick somebody from the 1990's. I have to pick somebody that's a little newers. And I know he's really not considered underrated but I feel this artist has to get a lot more attention. Lupe Fiasco.

Lupe needs to be much more of a superstar than what he already is. I feel like Lupe Fiasco is one of the dopest in the game if not "the" best lyricist in the game. He takes it to a whole 'nother level. I'm talking about listening to his records like Food & Liquor and The Cool.

Even his new album [Lasers] is really good. He's always been on top of his game. Lupe definitely deserves a lot more credibility than what he's gotten already.

Eric Turner talks about working on several songs w/ Lupe Fiasco

KeviPod interviewed Eric Turner recently. Turner talked about working on tracks with Lupe for Lasers and his own album and dropped a name of an unfinished/unreleased track. Check it below:

Q: After collaborating with a huge UK rapper like Tinie, you then recorded a track with US MC Lupe Fiasco called “Break the Chain”. How was it like working with Lupe? And do you know if there are still chances the song becomes a future single?

Eric: Break the Chain was a song we wrote not long after WITS. We had been going back and forth with Lupe on several tracks writing over Skype. He was originally gonna do "Stereo Sun" but it got dropped with all the controversy with releasing Lasers.

(It actually got leaked with another rapper on it by someone who got ahold of it and was tryin to shop it around under a different rapper. We were pretty sad about that cause I think we knew that if he put it on his album they'd have to do a single cause it was so vibey. It eventually ended up on Tinchy Striders album, 3rd Strike, but his album sort of got buried by some UK Rap business politics I don't understand.)

We worked on a song called "Voices of Fire" which was awesome and really rootsy then finally settled on "Break the Chain." It's probably one of my favorite songs I ever wrote cause it really says what I wanted it to say. I don't know if it will be a single, difficult to predict, my "hit song" center thinks they are crazy not to release it. It's a sleeper but it would def rise up the charts, like an Adele song.
