Nas acknowledges Lupe's Greatness

CNN recently named Nas the greatest lyricist of all time. In an interview with MTV he responded to that and also mentioned Kendrick and Lupe. Read below:

Nas is widely believed to be the victor in his and Jay's clash, and to strengthen their argument, CNN pointed to a 2006 MTV News interview with both spitters, where Jigga acknowledges the Life is Good rapper as "one of the best lyricists ever."

Where Jay stopped short of declaring Nas the one, CNN saw no problem in anointing God's Son. Still Nas is quite sure that there will one day be a new MC to over take his place in the annals of rap, just as many believe he supplanted 1980s icon Rakim.

"There was never a next Rakim. There's only one Rakim, and you can compare people to me, which is a great honor to me, but those guys are really on their path to becoming great Kendricks and greater Lupes," he said. "I think it took years after Illmatic, after my first record, before people started to get used to me and started to get into what I was all about and what the Nas story was."

  1. Even Nas recognizes Lu greatness. Nas is saying it's too early crown him the best lyricists ever as he believes the top 10 lists of today will change 10 years from now and he is right. Even said that he felt like it took looong after illmatic before people even started to realize what he's about. Just like it's going to take loong after Food and Liquor and The Cool before the masses realize what Lupe Fiasco is about.

It's too early agree, but for now I stand by my notion that Lu is the best with Nas second.

  2. Lupe is so legendary in his own right. The way I grew up with knowledge of certain musicians and artists, my future children are going to grow up with knowledge of and respect for Lupe Fiasco.

  3. I love Nas acknowledged lupe but ppl still don't really see jay-z is up there if not arguably better than Nas. Lyrically, jay has touched the top I think is the greatest rapper of all time.

  5. "When the remy's in the system ain't no telling will I fuck em will I diss em"- Stolen from Biggie. Or how bout Bonnie and Clyde which was straight plagiarized from Tupac. Jay-Z is a sell out. He took what was awesome from other rappers and commercialized it. Don't get me wrong I listened to everyone of Jay-Z's albums they're good, but he is no Nas, Biggie, Pac, or Lupe. He fucking copyrighted his daughters name lol. Real Recognize Real for sure.

    1. Do u know how many ppl sample lyrics. Literally every rap song. Even lupe has done it a couple of times.

    2. It goes beyond sampling the damn chorus is exactly the same as Me and My Girlfriend, plus pac straight dissed him why would he pay homage, not to mention that he passed it off as his own. Lupe has as many double entendres in one song that Jay has on one album. We're talking the skill of lyricism, other categories maybe Jay but not lyrics.

    3. I worship lupe he's the greatest lyricist ever without question. But I'm tired of ppl dismissing jay like he a scrub. He has done it all. He has more classics than anybody. Easy.

  7. Lupes not better than Nas sry. I love lupe but Nas I one of those peoples who's are altered the course of hip hop. Lupe will be a legend, but I wouldn't say he's best an nas is second, like nas' modestly toward rakim lupe would probably be the same toward Nas, who he also feels is te greatest to grace hip hop as he so boldly put it himself. And jay z... Jay z is a business man.. That's all I really want to sat about that lol

  8. We are not talking about impact on hip-hop or altering the course of hip-hip. We are talking about LYRICISM. Lupe in my opinion has surpassed him quite some time ago. Lupe as huge catalog of lyrical tracks. I don't care if Lupe thinks he's not better than Nas. Lupe is better whether he wants to admit it or not in terms of lyricism. Just as I don't care if Nas thinks he is not better than Rakim. Nas is better whether he wants to admit it or not.

  13. I've never listened to a Nas album. I tried but lost interest. I've heard singles. But never like them Tell me. What do I need to listen to, to get the full scope of what Nas is about? Also, many works of art must judged upon the time period in which they were made. Things that were innovative back in 1994 may seem a little old hat now. So, what should I compare Nas to. What is it about Nas that makes him great.
