Video: Lupe Fiasco on Last Call w/ Carson Daly

Lupe appeared on Last Call With Carson Daly yesterday (yeah, I didn't know either) and talked about his childhood, activism, the Occupy Movement, Lasers and more.

Props to Yardie for the vid.

  7. Do it for the money?? Do it for a Ferrari collection?? What the hell Lupe?

He said some very intellectual and insightful things throughout the interview. But towards the end, did he just say that he did lasers for the money?? What the hell is Lupe becoming? Can some one clarify this?

  8. He was saying he needed to find other motivations to get through the period since the record company took away his creative freedom. As a result, money and the fans became his primary motivation. completely understandable

  9. It explains why LASERS was the way it is, but at least he was honest about it. Great interview overall though

  10. Okay, i see. I just hope that Food and Liquor 2 is nothing but pure Lupe creativity & intelligence coupled with great non-artificial, non-commercial music. Because another lasers would be just be catastrophic.

  11. Hey fuckwit. He said he did it for the money because he needed something to give him motivation which is completely understandable. Making music is his job. Now when you go to work what is your first motivation that comes to mind that keeps you going? Those pay checks because money can support your needs, which you need for bills that could also support your family. Get The fuck over it. And if the cars is what lupe likes to collect and maybe you like to collect baseball cards maybe he has higher expectations then you. Hater smh.

  12. technically lupe "sold out" so to speak on lasers. he purposely got beats that would sound poppy and the fans didnt like it. Atlantic records only forced lupe to rap on 2 beats despite popular opinion that lasers was an atlantic records ruin. this money motivation has killed lupe's art. I hope he gets back to the F&L days.

  13. Orright so I'm trying 2 figure this out 2.... Yea, yea we know LASERS was not the music we were hoping 4. & then lupe says he did it for the money & the fans. He also said that he was feeling so suicidal that he was jus gonna motivate himself in anyway, some of us it's something small 4 him maybe it's a couple of ferraris.... I mean c'mon if any of us got the choice we would not refuse, @ the end of the day if u can afford it then go wild lol

  15. in response to @UrbanLegends comment "What the hell is Lupe becoming":

A human being. We've all got bills to pay and I think he is just trying to be honest about his motivations.. sometimes its as simple as sustaining one's self and one's interests. I think that makes him more human to admit that.

I also appreciate how hes so open with his depression and suicidal thoughts and how he got out of that.. Im sure he has given many who are suffering with mental health issues a way of seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I would love to see him do some advocacy work in this arena seeing as he has had such close personal experience with it.

  16. When lupe says he did it for the money, he was talking about the time period between The Cool and Lasers. This is during the time when Atlantic wouldn't put out the original Lasers album so he decided to go on tour for 2 years making lots of money.

  25. this the worst interview i have ever seen. "i listen to your music a lot" and "i see your progression in your lyrics especially in lasers" followed up by "you thought about suicide?" what a real dope.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Carson Daly definitely wasn't the best interviewer ever lol.
Strangely though, it made Lupe put more of his personal stuff out there.

  27. for the ppl saying, "he has bills to pay". lets b serious. any artist with any sort of semi-loyal fanbase gets more than enough money to pay their bills, and lupe has a big fanbase. not to mention if ur workin on ur ferrari collection i think bills r the last thing on ur mind. i think he did it for the money bc atlantic more or less forced his hand but some of u ppl r making some lame excuses to justify his actions. i think lupe will return to his roots on f&l 2 but the end of that interview was a little surprising to me

  28. ^Its the main reason why I don't understand Lu. Just when you think you've got him figured out, he throws a curve ball to show you that you don't. He said in an interview that everybody doesn't want to be Jay-Z, and talk about money and bentleys. Fast forward and I see a man talking about money and ferrari's. What's the difference?

    ReplyDelete
  29. ^I guess cause its not in the music?

but I really dont know, but thats possibility

  30. i feel like everyone is going in way too deep on this ferrai collection...all i get from him saying that is another way of saying 'f the money'. instead of capitalizing with Atlantic's x amount of dollars, he bought himself a ferrari collection for his own personal motivation in life. saying he sold out is ludicrous, hence the 1% joke followed. the only difference between buying a ferrari collection and a cd collection is the amount of money you get. Lu has many fans, and those true lasers know that 'f&l lupe' lives in every mixtape that surrounds that Atlantic mess. let the show go on Lu.. #FOTP
